Eventually you will reach the historic village of Onga Onga. Make sure you get a coffee and walk around the museum. This route is more like an adventure, with a very comfortable half way stop! Turn right out the front gate along Hardy Road. Head back towards the ranges on the Wakarara Road. There will be a river crossing as the Wakarara Bridge which was damaged in Cyclone Gabrielle. Cross the river with your E-Bikes just before you reach the bridge and there will be a track a couple of hundred metres on your left. Enjoy the rest of the ride on quiet sealed roads. Cut onto Holden Road, up and over the stretch of gravel road, before reaching the village of Tikokino.

Lookout Loop

  • Distance: 18 Km
  • Time: 1-2 hours

This loop sparked our initial interest in the New Zealand Agri-tourism business. Drop down off the Blackburn Ridge via Hinerua Road. You will pass Folgers hill and rocky outcrops, before meeting up and following the Waipawa river. Make the last climb back on onto the Blackburn Ridge via Hardy Road. Admire the native bush that hangs over the road. This loop is roughly half gravel/half sealed.
